Eddie Vedder // Here’s to the State of George W
I just received a dehydrator from my mom and it’s seriously so much fun. Everything is really easy and it adds a little something extra to my meal and snacks.
This past week Jon and I found some bananas for $5/case. Which is 40 lbs of bananas for just $5! We couldn’t pass up on the opportunity so we got two. We already had two pretty ripe cases at home. Since I just got the dehydrator and really wanted to use it, I decided to put some of our ripe bananas to good use.
First you peal the banana and stick your finger at the bottom of the banana. If your fruit is properly ripe then the banana will split into three pieces quite easily. After you’ve split the bananas lay them out in your dehydrator. I filled up all of my trays and dehydrated them for 12-15hrs (I made a few batches) at 135 degrees.
After the time is up, enjoy your delicious snack. Or take some frozen bananas, dates and strawberries and blend them in your blender to make ice cream. Use the dehydrated bananas as a nice yummy garnish.
I have a few more recipes I’m trying out right now, so I’ll let you know how they all go!
I just wanted to write a little about how things are going. Not too much has been happening lately, other than work and studying my yoga teacher training. I got to teach an hour and a half karma class this weekend which was very exciting. It put me in the best mood all day long :)
On the food front things are good. I’ll have some great digestive days and then one or two that get me so frustrated and throw me over the edge. I try to blame certain things like “night-shades” or root vegetables. But honestly I think it’s still just what my body needs to do to “repair” and heal itself.
I’ve been wearing less and less makeup and only some blush, a little concealer, where needed, and mascara on days that I work at the restaurant. All other days are spent makeup free for the most part. I want my body to heal and I know that I need to allow my body to heal. I feel vulnerable and naked and some days it’s hard to feel ugly on the outside, but I trust that with my commitment to this lifestyle everything will sort itself out eventually.
I’ve been running consistently 2-3 times per week no more than an hour and no less than 20 min. I try to do at least 2 yoga sessions per week however long or short they may be, as well as about 2 days of hiking. It may sound a little busy, but I’m not pushing my body to any limit. I’ve also decided to ride my bike into work within this month and continue to do so throughout the summer. It’s about a 15km ride and quite hilly, so I’m looking forward to that, for what it will do to my body, mind and spirit.
-Peace and love to all!

One of my new favorite things is to blend 8-10 bananas and carob powder. Carob powder has so many great nutrients and no caffeine. It contains a number of nutrients is high in fiver and vitamins A, B, B2, B3 and D. So for anyone living in a not-so-sunny place and craving some vitamin D, just eat some carob. For all of us HCRVs out there, carob is a pod from a fruit tree. The pod is roasted, so technically it’s not raw. Then the pod is ground into a powder and VOILA! the best chocolate substitute out there :)
